Hello U13 Girls Lax Families,
Welcome to the Sharon Youth Lacrosse program. We are excited to have many returning players to our program, along with some new players to our town/ the sport. My name is Sandra Widland and I will be coaching this year with David Widland, Adam Train & Kim Train. Thats right - 2 couples coaching lacrosse!!!! We have all coached the sport for multiple years and greatly enjoy teaching the fundamentals of the sport and watching our players improve over the course of the season.
The following is some important information in order to prepare for the Spring Season. We will be back in touch toward the end of February with additional details:
Your player must come dressed with cleats, mouth-guard, protective lacrosse googles and a girl’s lacrosse stick. These items can be purchased at most sporting stores (you can ask for a “starter kit”). Players cannot be admitted to practices or games without the correct equipment (for both liability and safety purposes), Next weekend MonkeySports will be having a 20% off sale on lacrosse equipment so take advantage!
New Player Clinic
Monday, March 9, 6 - 7 pm, there will be a new player clinic at Team Works in Canton. This is a great opportunity to come meet the coaches and learn a few fundamentals of lacrosse before our regular season begins.
Indoor & Outdoor Practice:
Indoor practice will be at Team Works (5 Carver Circle, Canton, across from Target) We have 4 indoor practices to help us get a jump on the season, as follows:
Thursday March 12, 6 - 7 pm
Saturday March 14, 11- 12pm
Saturday March 21, 10 - 11am
Saturday, April 4, 10 - 11am
Outdoor practice will be at East Elementary fields.
*NOTE: Outdoor practices are subject to change, as the field situation with East lower and side fields being redone and not available for most of the spring is causing havoc with all the sports.
Games are typically played on Sundays between the times of 12 - 4pm. The schedule has not been released yet. We should have that information soon.
High School coach & players
As in the past years, the high school lacrosse coach Shara Ginthwain and many of her players will be assisting in coaching some of our practices. We will organize a group outing at some point in the season to watch a girls high school lacrosse game and cheer them on.
Wall Ball/ Clinics
There are a number of great clinics being offered in the pre-season. If you are interested, I would be happy to forward them to you. Here is an example of a clinic Audrey participated in last year Click Here We are also unveiling our new Wall Ball challenge next month that I hope all the girls will take part in. It is the best/quickest way to learn catching and throwing.
Recently, we made the switch from Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League to (MBGLL) to the Founders league. This switch was made in large part because we wanted to play teams that were located closer to us, ie: Foxboro, Easton, Walpole, etc. Hopefully this cuts down on drive time!
We will be back in touch next month as the season officially kicks off. Until then, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
